Allofs' youngster valerien ismael: new chance?

Whether Valerien Ismael still gets one, is still unclear. First, the former coach of VfL Wolfsburg's regional league team is interim successor to Dieter Hecking, who was suspended on Monday, as professional coach. Ismael is expected to prepare the Bundesliga club, which has slumped to 14th place, for Saturday's match at SV Darmstadt, where he is also likely to be in charge of it.

To what extent the 41-year-old former professional of Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich and Hannover 96 (113 games/8 goals) will get a real chance to recommend himself for further assignments, Wolfsburg's sports director Klaus Allofs will answer this Tuesday.

Ismael is a kind of Allofs pupil. The brought the French defender in 2003 as a professional to Bremen and ten years later as coach of the U23 to Wolfsburg. But it is unlikely that Ismael, like Andre Schubert in Monchengladbach or Alexander Nouri in Bremen before him, will be allowed to work successfully as an interim coach until the club can no longer avoid hiring him as a permanent solution.

Club owner Volkswagen likes to strive for higher and rather big name and Ismael has already failed once as a professional coach. With the second teams of Hannover 96 (2011-2013) and VfL (2013/2014), he earned a reputation as a talented coach and was promoted in 2014 from 1. FC Nuremberg engaged. Only five months later he was on leave again and returned to Wolfsburg.

As a player, Ismael won the double of championship and cup twice with Werder (2004) and FC Bayern (2006).
