Welfenhof: chairs and tables are allowed again

Since a few weeks there are new regulations on special use areas in the Welfenhofpassage. Residents can again use areas for outdoor seating, merchandise displays and signs under certain conditions. This is made possible by a new fire protection report commissioned by the Welfenhof center management.

In many places in Welfenhof, such as in front of some stores and the restaurants, tables, chairs, merchandise displays and signs are once again allowed to be located if they are applied for in advance from Stadtmarketing GmbH. Its managing director, Gerold Leppa, says: "It's great that the new fire safety report has made areas available that we can allocate for special use purposes. This visually enhances the passage and makes it more attractive for passers-by. The tenants had often approached us with this request, but due to the owner's previously applicable fire protection concept, our hands were tied."

Stadtmarketing GmbH is responsible for the special uses on the publicly dedicated area in the arcade. In July 2013, it had been requested by the owner to prevent all special uses in the passage because of the fire protection concept that had been drawn up at the time.

"Incorrectly, the impression has arisen occasionally that the city marketing or the city had ordered this. On the contrary, we have since been working with our colleagues in the city to make the spaces available again. Therefore, we are all the more pleased that the landlord now makes the use possible and that we could support with the mediation," continues Leppa.
