Primark: customers storm store

Dozens of customers were already waiting at the door an hour before the store opened. Like a mega-event. And when the doors opened at 11 a.m., an estimated 1,000 people flocked to the new Primark store on Sack, filling the five floors in a matter of minutes. And Brunswick had in one fell swoop over 6400 square meters of retail space more. And a new half shopping center. Because the previously deserted half in the City-Point is now filled with customers again. By the evening Primark counted a few thousand customers.

Significant day for retail

"I congratulate the city on the gift Primark has given by locating here."

Dr. Bernd Meier
, Managing Director of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

31. March 2015 – a day that will go down in the history of retail in this city, almost comparable to the opening of the Schlossarkaden at the end of March 2007. This was also the view of Dr. Bernd Meier, Chief Executive Officer of the Braunschweig Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). In his speech, which he held in the store in front of the employees, he congratulated Braunschweig on the "gift" that Primark is giving the city with its settlement.

Tenant brings new frequencies

According to Meier, the site is extremely important for the city. Now Tchibo has found an "excellent new tenant who will bring new frequencies to the city center". After the opening of the Schlossarkaden, customers' walking routes had shifted – to the detriment of the City-Point at another end of the city center. But ECE has taken on the responsibility and has now decisively upgraded the City-Point. "I am thrilled with what has been created here in recent months."

Breege O'Donoghue, a member of Primark's board of directors, highlighted the almost family-like nature of her company in her speech. Primark is a subsidiary of British grocery group Associated British Foods (ABF) and is ultimately run by the Canadian-English Weston family through Wittington Investments.

O'Donoghue praised Braunschweig as a site rich in tradition and recalled its Hanseatic affiliation. "This is our 288. Store, a new pearl in our chain."She thanked the German customers who have supported her company so enthusiastically since it first set up shop in Bremen in 2009, and promised that Primark would continue to campaign for better working conditions in textile manufacturing.
